The Wise Man's Fear

The Wise Man's Fear - Patrick Rothfuss I have such a love/hate relationship with this book. I love the world and I love the characters but I absolutely hate the fact that this big 1000 page book revealed nothing significant about the plot or characters. We learned a few tidbits, I will give it that. I wish I had listened to the other reviews that warned about this. My expectations would have been different and I believe that I would have enjoyed the book more.

Do you want to learn more about the Chandrian? Besides a few tiny tidbits....you can forget it.

Do you want to learn more about Kvothe? I think it will be revealed in the next book that Kvothe has a sexually transmitted disease and that book 2 was really about his STD journey.

Denna? Nope. Not that many people would care. To be fair, I actually like Denna.

Anyone at the university? Nope.

Anything that you found interesting in book 1? Not much.

In my opinion, this entire book was one huge digression. However, if you loved The Name of the Wind then you practically have to read The Wise Man's fear. I get it. Even knowing what I know now, I would have still read it. The Name of the Wind is probably my favorite book EVER. I am sad and I feel robbed after reading this book but I am a loyal fan and will read any book that Mr. Rothfuss writes about Kvothe. I know that we will eventually get that excitement back that we had in book 1. The man is a fantastic writer and I have faith that this was all for a reason.

When you read this just know that it is a journey that is completely different from the 1st book. Kvothe is basically out on a self-discovery mission and this is the only way I can describe it. You won't be around the characters that you know and love for most of the book.
